Chêne Bleu Abélard AOC Ventoux

  • Marketing NameChêne Bleu Abélard AOC Ventoux
Brand DescriptionLocated on the same latitude as Châteauneuf-du-Pape and nestled in the hills of Les Dentelles de Montmirail, Chêne Bleu has the highest elevation in the region at 550-630 meters. The resulting cool nights and late harvest bring desirable ‘Northern Rhône-style' freshness to the Southern Rhône's rich concentration of fruit and tannin.
Brand HistoryBlessed with a confluence of natural factors, Chêne Bleu has the benefit of an exceptional location, multifaceted geology, and a southern Rhône climate with soils more typical of the northern Rhône. Isolated and protected, high in a mountain saddle, Chêne Bleu has its provenance in a unique, four-corner borderland of the département of Vaucluse in the southern Rhône, where the boundaries of Gigondas, Côtes du Ventoux, Côtes du Rhône, and Séguret come together. This area is located in the foothills of Mont Ventoux, 550 to 630 meters above sea level, on the northern slopes of a spectacular limestone outcropping known as the Dentelles de Montmirail, from the Latin 'Mons Mirabilis,' meaning 'Lace of Marvelous Mountains.' It enjoys an exceptional terroir due to this pristine, remote location and its complex geology, with many exposed strata of rock.
TasteElegant & complex, with layers of red currant and incense infused with cigar box, cured meat and smoked alder accents. Evolving beautifully, with a salty vein of minerality. Impressive length on the finish, this is marked by an intriguing cumin note.
Selling Point 1Chêne Bleu’s vineyards are located at one of the highest elevations in all of Southern Rhône, 2,000 feet above sea level.
Selling Point 2The family upholds a time-honored respect for certified Organic & Biodynamic philosophic farming, striving to preserve the land’s biological ecosystem through sustainable winery practices.
Selling Point 3Vineyards are planted on the dynamic soil beds of Mount Ventoux, composed of ancient volcanic basalts, chalk, mineral-rich clay and fossilized marine life providing remarkable complexity to the wines.
