- Cosentino Winery is renowned for creating the first designated and licensed Meritage wine, Bordeaux inspired blend that set the standard that others would follow in Napa Valley. THE Poet is cunningly energetic and bold, a Bordeaux-style Meritage red blend opens with luscious notes of rich black and cool blue fruit notes. On the palate, hints of earthy cedar and leather are layered with spice notes and a soft touch of vanilla surrounded by blackberry, currant, raspberry, and blueberry. On the finish, notes of nutmeg, peppercorn & cinnamon showcase the acidity and layered tannins that makes this wine perfect for a wide array of grilled meats, pasta dishes and French stews. Age or drink now through 2030.

Winemaker Notes | The 2021 growing season kicked off in January and February with plentiful, albeit short-lived, rainfall. The remainder of the season was dry with nearly no rainfall, which resulted in early budbreak, followed by early flowering, bloom and fruit set. Temperate spring and summer conditions of cool mornings and very warm days allowed for even veraison in July and continued ripening all the way to when we picked in September. The drought conditions created naturally lower yields resulting in intensely concentrated, flavorful berries and while less was produced overall, the wines bottled show excellent development. |
