| Long Description | At the heart of Mezcal Vago's family is the late Don Aquilino Garcia, a founding mezcalero of Vago whose passion and craft shaped the foundation of the brand. Today, his legacy is continued by his sons Temo and Mateo, who proudly uphold the artisanal traditions passed down through generations. The Garcia family palenque is location in Candelaria Yegolé, a remote village in Oaxaca. At more than 3,600 feet above sea level, the rugged, dry climate is ideal for growing agave with deep character.
Vago's Elote, distilled by the Hijos de Aquilino Garcia, is unique to the Garcia family and honors both their heritage and everyday life. Made using 100% Espadín and traditional artesanal methods, the agave is roasted underground for 2 to 4 days, then crushed traditionally with a mule-drawn stone tahona. Fermentation takes place in open-air pine vats, lasting around one week. Elote is then double-distilled with dried kernels of heirloom corn toasted and placed in the still during the second distillation. The result is a clear, joven mezcal with a subtle Mexican corn flavor.
Unique to the Garcia family, Elote is their celebration mezcal. Elote offers a flavorful, layered profile of sweet carmelized corn, roasted nuts, and vanilla balanced with a light smokiness and grain-forward finish. |

| Brand Story | Mezcal Vago believes in walking away from the beaten path, losing oneself in the hills, and searching out the extraordinary. Vago seeks out small batch mezcaleros, who for generations have been perfecting their craft deep in the mountains of Southern Oaxaca. Each unique mezcal is naturally made in a traditional palenque with no additives. On the front label of each of our bottles, all the information is there about who made it, what pueblo, what agave, details in the process, size of batch and more. This is connoisseur mezcal. Vago aims to empower both the master craftsmen with a celebration of his art, and also the consumer by giving them the knowledge they need to find a great mezcal. All of Vago's mezcals are joven (young) and clear, exactly as the mezcaleros have been crafting them for generations. Dust off a bottle and drink it in. |
