| Long Description | Mezcal Vago's El Manantial is an approachable, artisanal mezcal for both longtime fans and newcomers. This 43% ABV Espadín is crafted in Tapanala, Oaxaca, on a high plateau in the Sierra Sur mountains. Fermented and proofed with nearby spring water that supports the community, it offers a deepened sense of terroir in each pour. This expression, made by the sons of Joel Barriga, carries the bright agave and fruit-forward, almost tropical profile his mezcals are known for. In addition to a sessionable sip, this expression is perfect for artisanal mezcal cocktailing.
El Manantial translates to "the spring," a direct nod to the local spring water near Tapanala, not far from the Barriga family palenque, where water is harvested to produce this expression. The use of the spring dates back to the Zapotec era and now lives on with the Barrigas. The spring water gives this mezcal a softer, gentler, and sweeter profile. It contributes to the tropical, creamy, and mineral palate of this expression.
El Manantial is made from 100% fully mature Espadín. The agave is roasted in underground, conical pits before being fermented in open-air, wooden vats by natural airborne yeast. It is distilled the artisanal way in copper stills by the sons of Don Joel Barriga. Lastly, the liquid is proofed with spring water to 43% abv.
El Manantial follows all standards of the brands that have existed since its founding: artisanal production methods, immense complexity, and always from the hand of the maker. |

| Brand Story | Mezcal Vago believes in walking away from the beaten path, losing oneself in the hills, and searching out the extraordinary. Vago seeks out small batch mezcaleros, who for generations have been perfecting their craft deep in the mountains of Southern Oaxaca. Each unique mezcal is naturally made in a traditional palenque with no additives. On the front label of each of our bottles, all the information is there about who made it, what pueblo, what agave, details in the process, size of batch and more. This is connoisseur mezcal. Vago aims to empower both the master craftsmen with a celebration of his art, and also the consumer by giving them the knowledge they need to find a great mezcal. All of Vago's mezcals are joven (young) and clear, exactly as the mezcaleros have been crafting them for generations. Dust off a bottle and drink it in. |
