| Long Description | Don Joel Barriga is a third generation distiller, producing mezcal the artesenal way in Hacienda Tapanala, Oaxaca. His ranch sits in the high, rolling plateaus of the Sierra Sur mountain with an arid high desert climate. Joel takes a slightly deeper distillation cut, producing a rich profile and one of the brightest, fruit-forward mezcals in Vago's lineup.
Espadín by Joel Barriga is produced the Artesenal way and with 100% Espadín agave that has matured for 8-10 years. The agaves are roasted for 3-4 days in conical, earthen ovens before slowly cooling in the open air. Agave are then crushed with a stone tahona before being placed into pine wood fermentation vats to dry ferment for 2-3 days and wet ferment with local water for 3-4 days. Lastly, this expression is double distilled in small, fully copper stills.
Joel Barriga's mezcals are known for their bright, tropical profile. This expression has bold tasting notes of honey, mango, grilled pineapple, caramalized banana, lime pulp, mint, thyme, and lemon peel. |
