Vintage Wine Name Sorenson's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 Vintage 2014 Wine Description Legendary single vineyard, first planted in the 1880s by the Poncetta family at the foot of Howell Mountain (now Crystal Springs AVA as of 2024), Sorenson's Vineyard is the source of some of the Napa Valley’s most storied wines. Owned by Lee Stewart of Souverain before being purchased by the Burgess family, the vines here date back to the 1980s and are on the same volcanic soils of Howell Mountain on west-facing steep terraces. Named after famed winemaker Bill Sorenson, who completed forty-one consecutive harvests at Burgess, this Cabernet Sauvignon comes from extremely low yields, giving a concentrated and complex wine that is also effortlessly elegant. Burgess Cellars was purchased in 1972 from Lee Stewart of the original Souverain Winery which was located on the hillsides of Howell Mountain. The historic site drew some of Napa Valley's leading winemakers, including Mike Grgich and Warren Winiarski. In 2020 Steve Burgess passed the mantle to Gaylon Lawrence, upholding a 150-year tradition of family ownership. The winemaking and vineyard management teams embarked on an ambitious project; leading the way in regenerative and promiscuous farming in the Napa Valley in order to preserve historic vineyards and ensure the health of these vines for generations to come.
