Vintage Wine Name Barbaresco Chiaramanti DOCG 2018 Vintage 2018 Wine Description The Chiaramanti Vineyard in Barbaresco is situated under MGA Rio Sordo, and was planted in 1978. The unique terrain originated in the Tortonian-Messinian era, and is rich in calcereous clay and magnesium, manganese and zinc, the fine particles form a highly erosive silty marl. Region Piedmont Appellation Barbaresco Varietal Composition Nebbiolo Vineyard Details Orientation: South facing, Guyot-trained vines Elevation: 280 meters (920 feet) above sea level Vine Age: 45 years Soil: Tortonian-Messinian soil, rich in very compact blue marl with elements like manganese, boron and zinc Tasting notes Intense garnet red. Complex aromas with notes of licorice. Velvety and full-flavored with a long finish. Pairing notes Pairs well with meat, game and cheese. Alcohol % 15 Aging Aged in medium-toasted French barrique for 12-15 months, then in second-use 25 hectoliter oak barrels for several more, totaling 2 years in wood. Afterwards, it is transferred to stainless steel vats to rest 3 months, followed by 10 more months in bottle before release. The Cà Romé philosophy is reflected in the name: Cà is short for casa, which means “home” and refers to Romano’s home and a winery that is run by a family, not a corporation.
