Baytril Otic Ear Drops, 15mL

Baytril Otic contains the active ingredients enrofloxacin and silver sulfadiazine in drop formulation, for the treatment of acute and chronic canine otitis externa caused by susceptible bacterial and fungal pathogens. Enrofloxacin and silver sulfadiazine are antibiotics with a broad spectrum of activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Silver sulfadiazine is also an effective antifungal and is known to promote re-epithelialisation, thereby facilitating healing. For use in companion animals where culture and sensitivity testing indicates no suitable alternative. Safe for use in dogs from any age and weight.

  • Broad Spectrum Coverage: Baytril Otic combines enrofloxacin and silver sulfadiazine, providing broad-spectrum activity against bacteria and fungi commonly implicated in otitis externa. This dual-action formula effectively targets a wider range of pathogens, including Malassezia pachydermatis, Staphylococcus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans. The distinct antimicrobial mechanisms of the two active ingredients also minimise the potential for resistance development.
  • Targeted Efficacy for Otitis Externa: Specifically formulated for treating both acute and chronic otitis externa in dogs, providing relief and promoting healing within the ear canal. The soothing, non-steroidal formula includes silver sulfadiazine which aids re-epithelialisation, further supporting the healing process. Delivered in a non-irritating emulsion, it avoids canal maceration, a common issue with some ear preparations.
  • Easy Topical Administration: Simple twice-daily application directly into the affected ear canal makes treatment straightforward for pet owners, improving compliance.
  • Synergistic Action: The combined action of enrofloxacin and silver sulfadiazine may offer superior efficacy compared to single-ingredient products, providing comprehensive coverage against a broader spectrum of pathogens. This dual-action approach contributes to effective treatment and potentially faster resolution of infection.
  • Convenient Treatment Duration: Treatment duration of up to 14 days provides flexibility in managing different cases of otitis externa, from acute to chronic infections. This allows veterinarians to tailor treatment length based on individual patient needs and response to therapy, with the option of concurrent systemic enrofloxacin therapy in chronic or recurrent cases.

Instructions for Use Shake well before use. If necessary, clean the ear canal to remove any discharge or debris before applying the drops. Tilt the dog's head to position the affected ear horizontally. Administer enough drops to coat the affected areas and the ear canal. A guideline for dosage is 5-10 drops per treatment for dogs under 16 kg, and 10-15 drops for dogs over 16 kg. Apply twice daily for a maximum of 14 days. After administering the drops, gently massage the ear to ensure even distribution of the medication throughout the ear canal. The exact treatment duration depends on the individual case and should be reassessed and adjusted periodically by a veterinarian. For chronic or recurring ear infections, systemic treatment with enrofloxacin (based on pathogen sensitivity) may be recommended alongside topical Baytril Otic.
